In trying to find ways to lose my man boobs, I got pretty big into bodybuilding in high school and college. The problem with that is that most bodybuilders are trying to gain weight. They eat crazy amounts of protein and work out sometimes twice a day. You may have seen them in the store buying their 4 or 5 cartons of eggs and huge tubs of protein powder. I thought that reading all the body building magazines would help me with my problem. Those guys all had chiseled physiques, how could I go wrong?
Anyway, I learned a lot. One thing I learned was about different body types and the challenges each of them face when trying to get that Arnold-esque physique.
The Ectomorph:
These guys are of the lanky sort. If you knew any cross country runners in high school, or even ran cross country yourself, you know the guys I’m talking about. Marathon winners are almost exclusively ectomorphs. They store almost no fat, their limbs and muscles are long and thin, and ectomorphs have a hard time gaining muscle mass. They could walk into a Chinese buffet and murder five or six chickens and not gain an ounce.
The thing is, even guys like this can suffer from man boobs. In fact, it can be even worse for them because they are otherwise so thin, so even storing a tiny amount of fat in their chest area can result in ugly, embarrassing man boobs. It’s the most frustrating for them because they have almost no fat anywhere else.
The Mesomorph:
These guys have the easiest time in bodybuilding. They’re not fat, not thin. They can gain weight when they want and trim down when they want. But, it’s easier for them to put on fat than an ectomorph, so they need to be more careful. I’m a mesomorph. Most athletes outside of long-distance runners are. They can get away with storing a bit more fat on their chests because their shoulders a broader and their muscle mass is more mature, but since their frames are bigger, the fat stores on their chests are usually larger to compensate, again resulting in grotesque, unsightly man boobs.
The Endomorph:
The endomorph is probably the most common and have the hardest time trying to lose man boobs. They aren’t athletic. It’s easy for them to store fat and harder for them to get rid of it. Endomorphs can walk by a donut shop and gain 2 pounds and are plagued by slow metabolisms. Some endomorphs wish they could shed body fat as easily as ectomorphs, and some ectomorphs wish they could put on weight as easily as endomorphs.
The good news is that you’re not stuck with your body type. You can change it, but depending on which one you are, you’re going to have a harder time accomplishing your goals. You can even be a mixture between two of the types, for example you could be an ecto-mesomorph or an endo-mesomorph.
The trouble is that all body types can suffer from man boobs, and all of them face the same difficulties when trying to lose man boobs. Still, it can help knowing what body type you are. So know your body type, and be sure to check back later for more help on getting rid of man boobs.
